Chapter 621:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Her hospital gown was stained with a spreading patch of red where she’d torn out her IV.
With every agonizing step, she chanted in her mind, Baby, don’t be afraid. Mama’s coming. Mama is here.
At that same moment, a black Bentley screeched to a halt at the emergency entrance below.
The car was still moving when Garrett threw the door open and bolted out, not even bothering with an umbrella.

He burst into the lobby, ignoring the startled cries of the front desk staff, and ran for the VIP elevators. Casey followed close behind, flashing credentials at hospital security.
Inside the elevator, Garrett stared at his reflection in the mirrored walls. His hair was soaked, his suit a mess, his eyes shot with blood. He had never hated his own powerlessness more.
The elevator chimed, arriving at her floor.
The doors slid open. He charged out. And he saw her.
At the far end of the long corridor stood a figure both familiar and terrifyingly strange. A woman in an oversized hospital gown, her form frail and thin, one hand braced against the wall as she forced herself forward.
It was Amelia.
Garrett’s breath caught in his chest. He had imagined this reunion a thousand times, but never once like this.
She looked so fragile that a strong gust of wind might knock her over. Yet her back was impossibly straight, filled with a stubborn, unbreakable will.
He tried to call her name, but his throat had sealed shut.
As if sensing his presence, Amelia stopped. Slowly, painfully, she turned her head.
Her gaze traveled down the long hallway, and through a blur of tears and pain, she saw him.
Garrett. He was here.
She thought it was a hallucination, a side effect of the blood loss. She blinked, but he was still there, walking toward her, his steps uneven but determined.
The dam of her control broke. The strength, the fear, the pain, all of it burst out in a silent, wracking sob.
She opened her mouth to say his name, but her body had reached its absolute limit. Her vision went black, and she crumpled forward.
“Amelia!”
A raw, guttural scream tore from Garrett’s soul. He forgot his own injury, his own pain, and threw himself forward in a desperate lunge.
Just before she hit the sterile floor, he reached her, catching her, pulling her securely into his arms.
He held her warm, limp body against his, feeling as if he had just found the missing half of his own soul.
He lowered his head, his lips trembling as he pressed kisses to her forehead, her hair, whispering her name over and over. “I’m sorry… I’m here… I’m here…”
Casey and the doctors and nurses who had rushed to the scene stopped in their tracks, not daring to interrupt the heartbreaking reunion.
In the last moments before unconsciousness took her, Amelia caught the familiar scent of him, rain and smoke. She used her last ounce of strength to clutch the front of his shirt.
“The baby…” she murmured. “Our baby…”
