Chapter 622:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Garrett swept her up into his arms. She weighed no more than a feather. He looked down at her pale face, at the bloodstains on her gown, and a pain sharper than any physical injury ripped through him.
He turned to the doctors, his voice a low, dangerous roar that echoed down the hall.
Garrett’s roar echoed off the sterile hallway walls, a raw, animal sound of pure agony. “I’ll burn this whole hospital to the ground!”
The doctors and nurses froze, their professional composure shattered by the sheer violence in his voice. For a moment no one dared move, pinned in place by the force of his grief and rage.
An older doctor, his name tag identifying him as the department head, stepped forward with his hands raised in a placating gesture. His voice was steady, cutting through the tension. “Mr. Thornton, every second is critical. Please, let us get her to the emergency room.”

Garrett’s bloodshot eyes locked onto him. Amelia felt terrifyingly light in his arms, as if her life were already slipping away, and the thought sent a fresh wave of ice through his veins. At last he gave a stiff, jerky nod.
“I’m not leaving her side,” he bit out. “Not for one second.”
The medical team sprang into action, gently transferring Amelia to a rolling gurney. Garrett never let go of her hand, the one without the IV needle still taped to it. He half-ran, half-limped alongside the gurney as they rushed down the corridor, his uneven gait a stark reminder of his own recent trauma.
Casey Henderson moved swiftly to manage the aftermath, using his authority and a flash of his credentials to hold back hospital security and curious onlookers, clearing a private path for Garrett.
Amelia was wheeled into a post-op special care unit. A web of wires and tubes was connected to her, and the monitors began to beep in a steady, rhythmic pulse. Garrett was stopped at the door. He paced outside the glass window like a caged lion, his gaze fixed on the flurry of activity inside.
The hours that followed were a lifetime. He stood motionless at the door, refusing the water and food Casey offered, ignoring the throbbing pain in his own leg.
Clarence Thornton arrived, his face grim. He took in his younger brother’s devastated state, said nothing, and simply placed a hand on his shoulder before turning to deal with the hospital administration, making certain Amelia received the best care available.
Garrett’s response to his brother’s arrival was cold. The sting of betrayal was still fresh. But right now, Amelia’s life was the only thing that mattered.
Finally the lead doctor emerged from the room. “Mr. Thornton, Miss Frye’s vital signs are stable. But given the blood loss and the trauma, she’ll need a very long time to rest. She is incredibly strong.”
The word strong landed like a punch to Garrett’s gut.
His voice came out a raw rasp. “The baby?”
“A girl,” the doctor replied. “Underweight, but healthy. As per standard procedure for premature infants, she’s in an incubator in the NICU under twenty-four-hour observation.”
