Chapter 625:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Slowly she calmed, her body trembling in his embrace, her hospital gown soaked with cold sweat.
She sobbed against his chest and told him about the nightmare. “I dreamt they… they took my baby… I dreamt of the crash… so much blood…”
Listening to her fractured words, Garrett felt a pain like a physical blow. He knew that if he didn’t tell her the truth, this fear, born of the unknown, would torment her forever.
He made his decision. He gently wiped the tears from her face, his tone more serious than she had ever heard it. “Amelia, listen to me. It wasn’t an accident. And it wasn’t your fault.”
She looked up at him, her eyes wide with confusion.
Garrett took a deep breath and spoke each word with deliberate clarity. “The kidnapping, the car crash, all of it was carefully planned. You were their target from the very beginning.”
The shock was so great that she forgot to cry. “Target? Who?”
A cold, murderous light glinted in Garrett’s eyes. “Brice Langley.”
He told her everything, keeping it brief but clear. How Brice had orchestrated the crash. How he had taunted him at the party.
He left out his suspicion that Brice was an imposter, sticking to the established facts.
As Amelia listened, the terror on her face slowly gave way to a quiet, settled anger.

It hadn’t been because of her. It wasn’t a punishment for running away. She had simply been caught in the crossfire of a conspiracy aimed at Garrett.
That knowledge was a liberation. It freed her from the suffocating prison of self-blame. Her pain had a name and a face now.
She looked at Garrett, her gaze clear and steady for the first time. “Why would he do this?”
“For revenge,” Garrett said. “Revenge against me. Against the Shepard family.”
Amelia’s hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her palms. She was no longer just a weeping victim.
She looked at her husband, her voice soft but unyielding. “We can’t let him get away with it.”
Seeing the fire rekindle in Amelia’s eyes, Garrett felt a massive weight lift from his chest. He knew, in that moment, that the resilient woman he loved was back.
He pulled her into his arms again and rested his chin on the top of her head. His voice was a low, lethal promise. “I swear to you, Amelia, I will make him pay a thousand times over for the pain he’s caused us.”
She nodded firmly against his chest. Her body was still weak, but her spirit was no longer lost.
The next morning, Garrett summoned Casey Henderson. It was the first time Amelia had seen him since the incident.
Casey entered the room, and the tense lines on his face visibly softened at the sight of Amelia, frail but safe, with Garrett beside her.
“Miss Frye,” he said, his voice filled with genuine relief. “It’s good to see you’re okay.” He turned to Garrett. “Sir.”
Garrett wasted no time. “Clarence’s commercial sanctions against Brice will continue. But it’s not enough.”
