Chapter 627:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
In the days that followed, Amelia recovered quickly under Garrett’s meticulous care. She could walk slowly on her own, and the pain from her incision was beginning to fade.
Garrett cleared his schedule and dedicated himself completely to her. He prepared her meals, supported her on short walks, and even tried, awkwardly, to decipher complex postpartum care guides.
They built a warm, isolated bubble for themselves inside the hospital room, never speaking of the revenge being plotted beyond its walls.
The most sacred time of each day was their visit to the NICU to see their daughter.
Through the glass of the incubator, Amelia would softly tell the baby stories and sing lullabies, her face glowing with a gentle, maternal light.
One afternoon, looking at her daughter’s rosy cheeks, Amelia smiled at Garrett. “Look at her. She’s all pink and round, like a little cherry.”
Garrett looked at the tiny life, his heart melting. “She is,” he agreed.
Amelia tilted her head, a playful glint in her eyes. “Until we decide on a proper name, can we call her Cherry?”

Garrett lovingly tweaked her nose. “Whatever you want.”
“Cherry,” Amelia repeated, tasting the name on her tongue, her eyes full of love.
The doctors told them that Cherry was doing exceptionally well. In another two days, she could be transferred to a regular room with her mother.
The news left Amelia ecstatic. It also spurred Garrett to start planning for their life after the hospital.
“When you’re both discharged, we’re not going back to the apartment,” he told her. “We’re going to the estate outside the city.”
He explained, “The security there is top-level. It’s quieter, with gardens and lawns. It’ll be better for your recovery, and for Cherry’s.”
Amelia had no objections. Her only criterion now was what was best for the baby. “Okay,” she nodded. “Whatever you think is best.”
Garrett was pleased by her easy agreement, though a small, almost imperceptible flicker of disappointment touched him. She had agreed so quickly, as if it made no difference where they went, so long as it was for the child.
The day Cherry was moved into Amelia’s room, the entire VIP floor seemed infused with joy.
For the first time, Amelia held her daughter in her arms. She cradled the tiny, soft body with painstaking care, silent tears of overwhelming love tracing paths down her cheeks.
Garrett stood by, watching, his heart swelling with an emotion both sweet and sour.
He saw all of Amelia’s attention, all her senses, all her love, pour unconditionally onto the tiny infant in her arms. She kissed Cherry’s forehead, nuzzled her soft hair with her cheek, and whispered an endless stream of loving words.
Through all of it, she never once looked at Garrett.
He felt like an intruder, shut out of the complete and intimate world she and their daughter had just created.
He knew the thought was childish, selfish even, but he couldn’t stop the sharp, bitter sting of jealousy.
He cleared his throat, searching for a way into their world. “She… she seems to like you.”
