Chapter 629:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Recalling the techniques from the videos, he carefully scooped Cherry into his arms, one hand supporting her head and neck, the other cradling her bottom, holding her snugly against his chest.
A miracle occurred.
Nestled against the broad, warm expanse of her father’s chest, breathing in his familiar scent, Cherry instantly fell silent. She even let out a contented little yawn.
Garrett looked down at the peaceful infant in his arms, and a surge of joy and accomplishment more potent than closing a billion-dollar deal flooded through him.
He began to pace the room with his daughter, his movements shifting slowly from rigid to natural.
When Amelia returned from her appointment, she stopped in the doorway, captivated by the scene in front of her. Her tall, powerful husband was holding their tiny daughter, bathed in the warm glow of the afternoon sun. The image was as beautiful as a painting.

She stared, her heart filled with surprise and a deep, melting tenderness.
At that same moment, in the Langley estate, Brooke was in the middle of a furious tantrum.
She hurled an expensive Hermès pillow to the floor, screaming at her beleaguered husband. “I don’t care! I want that limited-edition crib! Why does Amelia Frye get to have one and I can’t?”
“Darling, that was custom-made for Miss Frye by a Thornton-owned brand,” Sterling explained wearily. “It’s one of a kind. It’s not for sale.”
Brooke wasn’t listening. She cradled her own swollen belly, her voice thick with jealousy and self-pity. “It’s just a girl! What’s the big deal? You’d think she’d given birth to the heir apparent! The baby I’m carrying is a boy!”
Her assistant murmured, “Ma’am, the doctor said you need to remain calm…”
“Calm?” Brooke shrieked. “How am I supposed to be calm? My best friend has a baby and I can’t even go see her! And it’s all your fault, Sterling! You’re useless!”
She aimed all her rage at her husband. She was pregnant, and Sterling feared the journey would take too great a toll on her health, so he had forbidden her from traveling to New York.
Sterling stood silently, absorbing her fury, his eyes filled with a familiar mix of guilt and helplessness.
Back in the hospital room, Garrett gently placed the sleeping Cherry back in her bassinet. He walked over to Amelia and wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Amelia leaned back against him. “You learned,” she said softly.
Garrett made a smug sound. “I’m her father. It wasn’t that hard.” The pride in his voice was unmistakable.
His childish boast made her laugh. She turned in his arms and, for the first time since the crash, initiated a kiss, pressing her lips to his. “Your reward.”
The kiss was electric. It instantly erased all the frustration and insecurity of the past few days. He deepened it, reclaiming his territory, his rightful place in her world.
Inside the Langley estate, Sterling was still trying to soothe Brooke when a servant hesitated at the doorway. “Sir, a Mr. Casey says he needs to speak with you…”
