Chapter 1050:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
He understood better than anyone how families like theirs clung to bloodlines and heirs. He had lived it himself — he had refused to marry, and his mother, desperate for descendants, had quietly arranged a surrogate to give him twins, a decision that had haunted him for half his life.
He couldn’t help thinking the Brooks family would eventually demand the same. And so he had reasoned that instead of waiting for Andrew to sort out his affair and his illegitimate child, it might be better for Cathryn to walk away from the Brooks family while she still could. As long as he had strength left in him, he would stand behind her and carry her through it.
“If you insist on keeping Kyla’s baby, I’ll cut off the Brooks family myself and take Cathryn away!” Andrew snapped, then stormed back to the bedroom.
Amanda watched him leave in a fury, then turned to Wade, baffled. “Aren’t men usually obsessed with passing on the family name? I assumed he’d want to keep the child.”
Wade shook his head. “I’m not.”
If he were, he wouldn’t have spent his whole life alone. It had been his mother who was obsessed with lineage — hiding everything, forcing a surrogate to bear him twins without his knowledge.
Amanda murmured, “So… was I wrong?”

Wade patted her hand, steady and calm. “Let Cathryn and Damien deal with it. We’re not stepping in.”
Amanda nodded. “I’ll follow Cathryn’s lead. If she feels humiliated by it, then Kyla’s child should be terminated.”
“If Damien has no descendants, does that bother you?” Wade asked.
Amanda smiled faintly. “Why would it? I respect their choice.”
She had always been broad-minded, the kind of woman who didn’t cling to rigid ideas. As long as Cathryn and Damien could spend the rest of their lives happy together, children or no children made no difference to her.
When Cathryn returned to the bedroom after her shower, she froze at the sight of Andrew’s swollen face. “What happened?” she asked.
Andrew lay on the bed with his arm over his face. “I’m fine,” he mumbled.
Cathryn lay down beside him, and neither of them spoke. Both were trapped in thoughts of the child Kyla carried, yet neither dared to bring it up.
Cathryn had made up her mind to protect Kyla’s baby — Andrew’s only child. Andrew, on the other hand, had already ordered Kyla to end the pregnancy within three days, even assigning bodyguards to keep watch over her. If she didn’t go through with the abortion by then, he would drag her to the operating table himself. Under no circumstances would he keep this child.
He had decided he would only accept a child born to Cathryn. If that was never possible, then they would live childless — just the two of them, as a couple. That was enough for him.
Each of them lay still, lost in their own thoughts.
Cathryn turned over. Just as she was drifting off, a hand slid onto her waist and snapped her awake.
Andrew had moved closer, his arms circling her.
Cathryn wrenched herself free and kicked him hard.
Andrew winced, grabbing his thigh in pain.
