Chapter 1060:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
The sprint over had left Andrew parched, a faint sheen of perspiration still on his skin. He noticed a sealed bottle of water on the coffee table, checked that the cap was intact, and drank deeply. When he set the empty bottle down, Kyla opened her eyes. Finding herself still in his lap, a flush crept across her cheeks. “I’m feeling much better now,” she murmured.
Andrew studied her. “Are you sure? Do you still need to see a doctor?”
She shook her head.
He gently helped her upright. “Get some rest. I’ll head out now.”
Kyla tried to stand, but her legs gave way, and she tumbled back against his chest. Andrew steadied her.
When she looked up at him, something shifted behind his eyes — they brightened with sudden, disoriented recognition.
“Cathryn, what are you doing here?” he asked.
A dark thrill surged through Kyla. The hallucinogen was taking hold.
She had known better than to hand Andrew a drink directly — he was far too suspicious for that. Before his arrival, she had used a syringe to inject the drug into the sealed bottle of water, knowing that the untouched seal would be enough to make him trust it. She had also added an aphrodisiac to the mixture, certain that the combination would give her what she needed.

Andrew gazed at her with soft, confused eyes, his expression carrying a faint pout. “Why didn’t you open the door before? Why did you keep pushing me away?”
Kyla’s eyes darkened. Not long ago, he had left her behind without a second thought to go to Cathryn. But she had made her move tonight, and it was working.
She pressed herself into his arms. “I’m not going to push you away. Just stay with me tonight.”
Andrew began to smile — and then stiffened.
A faint trace of perfume reached him. Wrong perfume. The smile drained from his face. Cathryn didn’t wear a scent like this.
“You’re not Cathryn!” He shoved Kyla away with force.
She landed hard against the sofa cushions and looked up at him with wide, imploring eyes. “Andrew, look at me again. I am Cathryn.”
She only needed to keep him there a little longer. No matter how sharp his mind was, no man could hold out against this drug indefinitely. Cara had warned her: it was among the most potent compounds ever synthesized, banned across the world, and she’d managed to obtain only a single dose. Without a physical release, the pressure it built in the body had nowhere to go. Kyla knew this was her one chance, and she had made certain everything was in place.
Andrew forced himself to his feet, staggering toward the door. When he reached for the handle, it held fast — locked.
Kyla rushed to him and wrapped her arms around him to block the way. “I’m so lonely. Please, just stay tonight.” She pulled him toward the window and threw the curtains open. Outside, the paparazzi she had hired were already waiting, cameras poised.
The drug surged through Andrew’s system. A wave of scorching heat rolled through him, flushing his face deep red. A low, involuntary groan escaped him. “So hot—”
Kyla began working at the buttons of his shirt. “Take it off if you’re too warm.”
