Chapter 1136:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Bart remained in his seat, staring at the two lonely cups of coffee before him, saying nothing.
After a while, he retrieved his phone and called his assistant.
“Dismiss Lena and let her know not to return from tomorrow onward,” Bart instructed before ending the call.
Bart couldn’t quite fathom the reason for Candice’s sudden return. He hadn’t gleaned any valuable information from Bettina, and his recent exchange with Candice hadn’t provided any new insights either.
Candice’s interference in his plans to set up an international investment company, along with her in-depth investigation into the Royal Garden Corporation, left him perplexed.
But one thing remained certain. Even if Candice were seeking retribution against Milton, she wouldn’t be siding with him. It seemed he had to explore an alternative path.
Sitting by the window for a while, Bart watched as the streetlights flickered on, casting a feeble glow on the wintry night. Everything appeared desolate.
His handsome profile remained shrouded in the thick darkness as he pondered his next moves.
Finally, he retrieved his phone and dialed a number he hadn’t called in quite some time.
After more than ten rings, the call was answered.
On the other end, Shawn’s voice came through clearly.
“Mr. Glyn, you’ve been doing well lately. You finally remember to reach out? How can I assist you?”
Bart grinned.
“It’s been a while, and I heard you’ve climbed the ranks at the National Search Department. You never cease to amaze. Have you heard that Candice is back in Ploville? What’s your game plan?”

“I’ve already met her,” Shawn replied candidly.
“Really?” Bart was taken aback.
“You’ve met her?”
“Through some mutual acquaintances,” Shawn clarified.
“For now, she’s in my game. Mr. Glyn, you know we share common interests. If I ever need your assistance, I trust you’ll be there to help.” Shawn’s voice was cold.
“Alright, here’s to a fruitful collaboration,” Bart said, giving a slight tug at the corner of his lips before ending the call.
After leaving the cafe, Candice’s next stop was the local drugstore, which she had scouted online in advance. This drugstore boasted a comprehensive range of mother and baby essentials, from Class II to Class III medicines, as well as a treasure trove of healthcare products specifically catered to infants.
Engaging in a thorough consultation with the resident pharmacist, she made quite the haul and began her journey back home. When Candice returned to the Deepmoor Hotel, it was getting dark.
The weather over the past couple of days had turned colder, with frigid winds heralding an impending freeze. As Candice exhaled, her breath materialized into a stark white mist. She clasped her collar tightly, limping into the Deepmoor Hotel’s lobby.
