Chapter 477:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She used her fork to cut off a bit of the fried egg and tasted it. The edges were crisp, the yolk soft and flowing. The flavor was exactly like the one in her memory.
“It really is good.”
“Yeah, it’s pretty good,” Connor said. He had already polished off more than half his plate.
The pasta had that springy chew he liked. It was plain, homestyle food, worlds apart from the meals Connor usually had.
In the beginning, he ate slowly. The regret of missing the years that belonged to Joslyn’s past still sat in his chest.
But now, seated across from her at this worn old table, eating the food that carried her college memories and hearing her call him her husband in front of Rosa, he felt a calm, gentle warmth seep into him and quietly fill the hollow places in his heart.
Before long, Connor’s pace picked up.
Joslyn had only taken a few bites and was still savoring the first mouthful, yet his plate was almost empty already.
She looked at him, startled. “Do you always eat that fast? At home, you usually eat at a normal pace.”
Connor set down his fork, and then dabbed the corner of his mouth with a napkin, every movement elegant as ever. “It’s a habit. Back when I first took over the company, every meal had to be rushed. I got used to eating fast. At home, I deliberately slow myself down.”
Joslyn nodded, a trace of sympathy rising in her heart. When people were young, they really did treat their bodies like machines. No wonder he’d once mentioned having stomach issues.

She lowered her head and continued eating. She was hungry, but her period had dulled her appetite, and the oversized portion made her feel stuffed halfway through.
There was still a little under half a plate left. She had already eaten one fried egg, three slices of bacon, and all the vegetables.
She let out a small breath and put down her fork.
“Full?” Connor asked.
“Yeah. I really can’t eat another bite.” Joslyn glanced at the remaining egg and bacon on the plate, feeling a little reluctant to waste it.
Connor reached across the table and slid her plate toward himself.
“I’ll finish it.” He said it casually, and then picked up his fork and started eating without the slightest hesitation.
He was fast, but never messy. His jaw moved in neat, steady motions, and his Adam’s apple rolled as he swallowed. In no time, the leftover pasta, egg, and bacon were gone.
Connor took out another clean napkin and wiped his mouth. When he looked up and noticed her staring, he asked, “What?”
“Nothing.” Joslyn shook her head, amusement flickering in her eyes. “I was just thinking men seem to be born with a talent for eating fast.”
Connor’s brow twitched faintly. He chose not to answer that and instead asked, “Does your stomach still hurt?”
“Much better now. The hot food helped a lot.” She wasn’t lying. The bloated, cramping ache in her lower abdomen had eased by quite a bit.
