Chapter 479:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
At four-thirty the next afternoon, Joslyn shut down her computer. She had already arranged to leave an hour early.
A few coworkers still at their desks looked up when they saw her packing her things.
Joslyn slipped on her coat, picked up her bag, and nodded to a teammate. “I’m heading out.”
“That early?” her coworker asked, surprised.
“Yeah, I have something to do. I’ve already gotten approval from the director.” She didn’t explain further and walked out.
By the time Joslyn reached the building entrance, the car was already waiting by the curb.

She hurried over, yanked open the door, and slipped inside, carrying a burst of cold air in with her.
“Why are you rushing?” Connor asked from beside her.
“I didn’t want to make you wait,” Joslyn said as she fastened her seatbelt.
Connor didn’t say anything else. He simply signaled for the driver to start the car.
They headed to a hospital, one that was quiet and far from crowded.
The doctor was already waiting in his office. He looked to be around fifty and wore glasses. When Connor entered, he smiled and greeted him. “Mr. Newman.”
When the doctor’s eyes moved to Joslyn, Connor introduced her. “This is my wife.”
The doctor smiled warmly at Joslyn. “Good to see you, Mrs. Newman.”
Joslyn returned the smile with a small nod. “Good to see you too.”
The follow-up examination went smoothly.
The cast was removed first. Then Connor was taken for X-rays. Once the images were ready, the doctor studied them carefully, tracing along the fractures on the illuminated screen with a finger.
“It’s healing very well. The bone has formed a solid callus, and there’s no sign of displacement.” As he spoke, he fitted a removable brace around Connor’s wrist and adjusted the straps until it sat securely. “The cast can stay off now, but he’ll need to wear this brace for a while longer. No weight-bearing or strenuous activity.”
He looked up and continued, “He can start doing gentle wrist and finger exercises to prevent stiffness. Just be careful with the elbow and shoulder for now. And at night, make sure he wears a sling to keep the arm stable so he doesn’t accidentally roll onto it while sleeping.”
Standing beside Connor, Joslyn listened attentively, nodding as she committed every instruction to memory.
“How long before he recovers completely?” she asked.
“Probably another two to three months,” the doctor replied. “But for normal daily activities, he should be doing fairly well in about two weeks. He just needs to be extra cautious until then. No heavy lifting and no sudden, forceful movements.”
Turning to Connor, he added with a chuckle, “Mr. Newman, don’t rush it. Bones heal on their own schedule.”
Connor gave a small nod. “Got it.”
Joslyn looked at the doctor. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep a close eye on him.”
The doctor laughed. “Good. Knowing someone’s keeping an eye on him puts my mind at ease.”
