Chapter 458:

His brow furrowed, and his expression sharpened. “The data from Cobweb’s Vrining branch is fragmented and unreliable. And with Vrining’s network defenses growing stronger every year, transmitting this information online could be too risky. I’ll go myself, face-to-face. It’s better to leave no digital trace.” Without hesitation, he started booking the earliest available flight to Vrining.
“Leave it to me, Allison,” he vowed, his voice steady but filled with resolve. “I’ll track down everything you need on this Fleeingland lead, no matter the cost.”
“Thank you, Gordon. Let’s go over the finer details when you’re there,” Allison replied before hanging up.
The large room fell into a profound silence.
Allison carefully placed the fragmented blood-red earring into the safe, forcing herself not to dwell on thoughts that hovered dangerously close to darkness.
That night, sleep eluded her completely. She tossed and turned, her mind haunted by images of dismembered limbs and bloodied faces.
The horrific memories of human experiments tormented her thoughts, crossing the line of what any person could endure.
By morning, her eyes were shadowed with deep circles as she made her way to Charisma Company. The team was focused on developing a new product, but Kellan and she had only scratched the surface of the project a few days earlier.
There was still much to be done, and the rest required her personal touch.
Donning a white protective suit, Allison spent the entire morning in her private lab, immersed in her work.

It wasn’t until lunchtime that she peeled off the suit and returned to her desk, the latest experiment report in hand.
She immediately noticed an undercurrent of murmurs weaving through the office.
“Did you hear? Some tall, stunning woman went straight into Mr. Lloyd’s office this morning, and she’s still in there! Any guesses on her connection to him?”
“Tsk, tsk, Ms. Clarke might not be able to accept it. After all, Mr. Lloyd was openly pursuing her not long ago.”
“Honestly, I think that girl doesn’t hold a candle to Ms. Clarke.”
The whispered rumors stirred the air.
Allison paused, listening in as someone continued, “I have a friend in the secretary’s office who did some digging. Turns out, she’s the only daughter of the Greenfield Group, fresh from studying abroad! Carole Perry, right? A real heiress.”
The buzz of gossip filled the office as more than a few pairs of eyes glanced in Allison’s direction.
“Ms. Clarke, you’re close with Mr. Lloyd — did you know his girlfriend Carole is back in town? If she’s really the future Mrs. Lloyd, we should probably start treating her like royalty, don’t you think?”
“I wouldn’t know,” Allison replied calmly.
