Chapter 1177:

His stare was piercing as he studied Jax. “The choice is yours, Mr. Harris.”
Jax froze, confusion flickering across his face. The police? Why would they be coming for him?
Seeing Jax’s stunned expression, Hawley let out a quiet chuckle, full of ridicule. “Did you really think you covered your tracks at the expo today? That no one would find out what you did?”
That single, offhanded question doused Jax like a bucket of ice water. The fire—had it already been traced back to him?
But how?
He had given clear orders. The bodyguard was supposed to erase all traces and leave Jurgh immediately after setting the fire. Realizing that resistance was futile, Jax gradually stilled.
His panic-stricken gaze flicked toward Wilma, who was just as shaken. Their situation was spiraling out of control.
Between being dragged away by these men and being arrested by the police, the former seemed like the lesser evil.
Jax made a quick decision. His voice came out dry as he looked at Hawley. “Alright. We’ll go with you.”
Hawley looked unsurprised. Without another word, he turned and strode out, his bodyguards ushering Jax and Wilma behind him.
The group disappeared into the night.
Half an hour later, multiple police cars pulled up outside the Harris family villa. Charlee and Silvia stepped out of one of them, trailing the lead officer into the house.
But inside, the place was empty.
Jax was gone.
Meanwhile, on the top floor of the Grand Hotel, Jax sat stiffly beside Wilma, surrounded by a ring of silent, watchful bodyguards. The plush sofa beneath him did nothing to ease his nerves.

He cast a wary glance at the elderly man seated across from him, a figure well into his sixties, unease tightening in his chest.
Cordell, unbothered by the tension in the air, took his time, calmly pouring himself another cup of tea.
Finally, Cordell broke the silence, his voice light, almost casual. “Mr. Harris, I hear you have quite the ambition for the presidency of Harris Group.”
Jax stiffened. His head snapped up in shock.
How the hell did this old man know that?
Cordell studied his stunned expression, the corners of his lips curving into a knowing smile. “It’s good for young men to have ambition,” he mused. “Too bad Marc is standing in your way.”
