Chapter 1199:(END)

“Record this now — this footage is worth a fortune!” another urged.
When the final needle was placed, Kaelyn stumbled back, her face ghostly pale. Blood seeped from her lips, but her eyes shone with fierce determination.
“Now,” she said, leaning against the wall, her voice barely above a whisper. “They’re ready for the hospital.”
Before she could finish, her knees buckled. Dewitt caught her, his eyes falling on her mangled right hand — tendons torn from the needles’ toll.
On the stretchers, Rodger’s fingers twitched. Angelica’s eyelashes fluttered softly.
The storm outside had calmed. A single ray of sunlight broke through the clouds and glinted off the blood-streaked wedding ring on their joined hands.
With Dewitt’s help, Kaelyn shuffled out of the basement, her face pale, her right hand limp and bruised from the needles’ strain. Yet a soft smile curved her lips, as though a heavy weight had finally lifted.
Behind her, medics carefully loaded Rodger and Angelica into the ambulance. Their vitals were steady now, no longer teetering on the edge of death.
“Ma’am, your hand needs a doctor,” Dewitt said, concern etching his face as he glanced at her twisted fingers.
Kaelyn shook her head gently, her eyes drifting to the masked men being led away by police. As the last mask came off, her breath caught.
“Delavan? Hans?” she whispered.
Those faces — ugly with malice — belonged to old enemies. Delavan, who had framed her at Faulkner Group. Hans, the mercenary who had kidnapped her overseas. Claire had recruited them both, biding their time for this cruel revenge.
“What goes around comes around,” Kaelyn murmured, closing her eyes as the morning breeze cooled her blood-streaked face.

In that quiet moment, a scream shattered the calm.
“Kaelyn! You’re finished!” Chloe — wild-eyed and disheveled — lunged from the rubble, a jagged glass shard gleaming in her hand, aimed squarely at Kaelyn’s back.
“Watch out!” Dewitt shouted, but the warning came too late.
A sharp clang rang out as the glass struck Kaelyn’s back — and shattered.
Chloe’s crazed grin faltered. Her eyes went wide as she stared at the broken shard, then at Kaelyn’s unscathed back.
“How…” she stammered.
Kaelyn turned slowly, her fingers brushing the high-tech fabric of her gown — bulletproof armor Rodger had designed for her.
“Chloe,” she said, her voice calm as a still lake, “you’re lost in your twisted dreams. Forever.”
“No! I’m Mrs. Barnett! Rodger loves me!” Chloe shrieked, raising the shard again. “Die!”
A gunshot cracked through the morning air.
Smoke curled from Dewitt’s gun, a neat hole marking Chloe’s forehead. She stumbled back, the glass shard slipping from her hand and shattering on the concrete. Blood pooled beneath her as her body crumpled, her eyes frozen in mad defiance.
“I am…” she gasped — then fell silent.
Kaelyn watched without a flicker of pity, only bone-deep weariness. She turned toward the ambulance as Dewitt’s voice barked orders behind her.
The morning light grew stronger, chasing away the last of the shadows. As the ambulance doors shut, Kaelyn let herself slip into darkness.
In her final moment of consciousness, she heard Rodger’s heartbeat — faint, but steady.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
It pulsed like a quiet promise, a spark of life that refused to fade.
Rodger… our story has just begun.
