Chapter 248:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Rick Snyder looked at the gold notes, his eyes turning completely mad. He lunged at the steward, trying to stop him. “No! You can’t sell it! Sonny is just an apprentice—he hasn’t completed his articles yet! He doesn’t have independent standing to close this deal! The transaction is legally invalid!”
The steward, startled, glanced at the gold notes, then at me, hesitating. What Rick said was, indeed, the agency’s policy.
I looked at Rick’s ugly, sore-loser face and completely lost my patience.
I swept the gold notes back into the pouch. “Very well. In that case…”
I turned to Sonny. “I won’t buy this property today, but this deal is not over. The day you complete your articles and receive your full agent’s certification, I will come back with this payment and personally complete this transaction. That is my promise.”
With that, I turned and walked away, not looking at anyone else.
I walked out of Golden Key Property Agency, fuming as I strode down the street. Just as I turned a corner, the corner of my eye caught a black carriage parked by the side of the road.
Charly Kramer POV
I sat in the carriage, staring daggers at Haven as she walked out of that cheap property agency. What was she doing here? That angry, frustrated look on her face was a beautiful sight to behold. Did she think marrying Demetri meant everything was settled? I would make her understand that as long as I, Charly Kramer, was around, she would never have a good day.
I gave a look to the two men sitting next to the driver. They were men my father had introduced to me, specialists in handling “dirty work.”
I mouthed the words to them: “Follow her. Find a place with no one around. Bring her to me.”

Haven Kramer POV
I left Golden Key Property Agency in a blaze of anger, walking aimlessly down the street.
The feeling of failure was terrible. Not only had I failed to buy the property, but I had also dragged Sonny into this mess.
I needed to calm down, to clear my head. I didn’t take the busy main street, but turned into a relatively quiet back alley.
As I walked, my keen senses picked up that something was wrong.
Footsteps. Following me, not too fast, not too slow. More than one person.
The constant vigilance required by our enemies had made me hyperaware of my surroundings. I pretended to stop casually in front of a shop window, using the reflection in the glass to observe what was behind me.
Two men. Tall, wearing ill-fitting cheap clothes, their eyes shifty, their movements carrying the unmistakable swagger of street ruffians. They were pretending to look at the scenery, but their attention was fixed on me.
A chill went down my spine. They were after me. Was this Rick Snyder’s revenge? Unlikely. He didn’t have the guts or the connections.
I continued walking, deliberately quickening my pace and turning into an even narrower alley. The footsteps behind me quickened as well.
In the middle of the alley, I stopped and turned around.
Seeing me stop, the two men also stopped, their faces breaking into sinister grins as they blocked my path from both ends.
