Chapter 1653:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Gathering her courage, she asked tentatively, her voice tinged with vulnerability, “Matthew, have you regained your memory?”
Matthew replied calmly, “No.”
Lindsay secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
She wanted to ask about the events of last night—why Stella and Matthew seemed so close. The image of their embrace lingered in her mind, a thorn that pricked at her heart with every thought.
But she knew Matthew wouldn’t provide the answers she sought. Worse, he might even resent her for prying. So, she swallowed her questions, burying them deep.
A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Fernando stepped in respectfully and said, “Mr. Clark, Dr. Watts has arrived and is waiting in the consultation room.”
Matthew gave a small nod before rising from his seat.
Fernando quickly moved to Lindsay’s wheelchair, positioning himself behind it. Together, they made their way toward the consultation room in silence.
As they headed toward the consultation room, Lindsay was on edge. Every passing second felt like an eternity, filled with the gnawing unease of what was at stake. This moment could determine whether her leg injury would remain her greatest weapon to draw Matthew’s sympathy.
Yet, she found some solace in recalling the assurance she had received from that mysterious man—someone who had promised that everything was perfectly arranged, that nothing could go wrong. With those words echoing in her mind, she tried to calm her jittery nerves. However, her fingers tightened around the wheelchair’s armrest, betraying her unease.
As they entered the consultation room, Lindsay’s gaze settled on the elderly man sitting before them. The man’s gray hair hinted at the wisdom of his years. His nose was sharp, his eyes deep-set with an almost palpable sense of knowing, as though they had witnessed centuries of stories unfold. The wrinkles at the corners of his eyes marked time, but his gaze still carried the sharpness of someone unbothered by age.
Despite the gray strands of his hair, which he had neatly groomed, his crisp suit commanded authority and professionalism, wrapping him in an air of reverence.
Lindsay’s anxiety tightened in her chest as she observed him. She still couldn’t shake the feeling of uncertainty about what was to come.

Matthew stepped forward, extending a polite greeting. “Dr. Watts, it’s a pleasure. This is Lindsay Wheeler, the one I mentioned to you. Her leg injury is rather complex, and I hope you can provide some insight.”
Ronan gave a small nod, his voice calm yet decisive. “Alright. You two can step outside for now. I need to examine the young lady.”
Matthew and Fernando left the room, the door closing softly behind them.
Lindsay’s heart raced, but before she could give voice to her worry, Ronan’s smile broke through her tension. “Miss, no need to be so anxious. Just relax. Mr. Charles has already briefed me on everything. I’ll handle it from here.”
He pulled out a prepared medical record, the name “Lindsay Wheeler” clearly visible, along with what appeared to be a set of professional diagnostic notes.
A wave of relief washed over Lindsay, and she allowed herself to settle, realizing that Mr. Charles might be the mysterious man who had orchestrated every detail of this since the beginning. Although she couldn’t discern his exact motives, she found comfort in the thought that as long as she could win over Matthew, the rest would fall into place.
In the hallway, Fernando kept a watchful eye on Matthew, who remained silent. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease, unsure of how to proceed.
