Chapter 1654:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
After a moment’s thought, Fernando decided to update Matthew on the ongoing investigation into the fire at Stella’s warehouse. “Mr. Clark, we’re still looking into the fire at Stella’s warehouse. The location is remote, with no nearby surveillance, but we did spot an unlicensed vehicle near the main road. We tracked it for a while before it vanished completely. I apologize for not handling this more efficiently.”
Matthew waved his hand dismissively, his voice cool and detached. “There’s no need to continue investigating.” He knew full well that the other party was likely already prepared, leaving behind only the clues they wanted exposed. Pursuing the investigation any further would only lead them down a path they had already planned, yielding nothing of value.
Fernando was taken aback, his brows furrowing in confusion. “Mr. Clark, do you think this could be the Charles family’s doing? They might be deliberately shifting the focus onto Stella. Lately, they have been trying to snatch our Prosperity Group projects.” Matthew’s lips tightened, deep in thought over Fernando’s words.
Fernando pressed on, his voice hesitant. “If it is the Charles family behind this, should we assign someone to protect Stella?”
Before Matthew could respond, a sudden noise erupted from the consultation room.
He turned to Fernando, holding up a hand. “Let’s not jump to conclusions just yet.”
No sooner had the words left his lips than the door to the consultation room swung open. Lindsay emerged, her eyes swollen and red, a clear sign that she had been deeply affected. The distress was written plainly across her face. She slowly wheeled herself out, as if every movement was a struggle.
Matthew quickly approached Lindsay, and upon spotting him, she enveloped him in a tight embrace. Tears streaming down her face, she cried out, “Matthew, it’s hopeless. The doctor’s verdict on my legs…”
Just as she spoke, Stella emerged from the elevator, catching a poignant scene: Matthew tenderly consoling Lindsay with a gentle touch on her shoulder.

Frozen in her tracks, Stella’s heart lurched, anchoring her to the floor, unable to move forward or retreat.
Fernando noticed Stella’s sudden appearance. A grim realization washed over him—there was no simple explanation for this moment.
Compelled by the gravity of the situation yet wishing to flee, Stella initially thought to turn back, to escape the sorrow before her. However, as Matthew’s gaze met hers, time seemed to stand still, locking her in place.
After a heartbeat’s pause, she approached with a composed façade, stating, “I came to check on Lindsay’s test results.”
Lindsay’s grip on Matthew tightened as she heard Stella’s approach, her arms constricting around him with desperate intensity.
Gently but firmly, Matthew eased Lindsay’s arms from around his waist.
A tumult of reluctance surged through Lindsay, her act barely concealing the sobs she choked back. She managed to utter, “Dr. Watts says it’s futile. My legs… I’ll never walk again. I feel utterly powerless.”
Stella’s emotions swirled chaotically upon hearing this declaration.
She took in Lindsay’s shattered demeanor, a storm of empathy and distress brewing within her.
Matthew’s expression darkened with concern as he clasped Lindsay’s trembling hands. “Lindsay, please, settle down. Don’t lose heart. We’re not at the end of our rope yet.” He soothed her, his voice a blend of resolve and reassurance.
Lindsay’s voice cracked under the weight of her despair. “My life is in ruins. What’s the point of going on like this? I’m nothing but a burden now. Maybe it would be better if I just… disappeared.”
