Chapter 750:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
The proposer was visibly nervous, fumbling with the ring and stammering through his speech. Tears rolled down the woman’s face, her hands covering her cheeks in shock.
Julian was drawn in by the emotion of it all.
After the couple kissed and embraced, their voices faded behind a different one nearby.
“Would you cry like that if someone popped the question?”
He instinctively turned to look.
On a neighboring balcony stood another pair, also watching the proposal. Even in the dim light, the man’s silhouette was unmistakable—Colten.
Standing beside him, wind teasing the hem of her skirt, was a woman. Only a glimpse was visible, but Julian had no doubt—it was Katherine.
She laughed softly.
“No one would ever ask me that.”
“I want to,” Colten murmured.
Katherine shifted, only to spot Julian standing just a few feet away.

Julian’s gaze was intense, burning with a heat that seemed to melt her will. She recalled his bitter words:
“Make sure we never cross paths again.”
Colten noticed Julian too and swiftly pulled Katherine into a firm embrace.
Caught off guard, she instinctively tried to push him back, but he whispered urgently,
“You’re still weak. Don’t let him realize that you just gave birth recently.”
Her heart clenched. She hadn’t spoken about her labor—how would Julian even know?
But there was something more pressing—she subtly repositioned herself, using Colten’s frame to conceal her, one hand bracing her lower back, her rounded stomach clearly visible beneath her coat.
Julian noticed the motion, and his gaze dropped automatically.
Colten’s stance blocked the full view, but the message was unmistakable—she was expecting.
Without exchanging a word, Colten and Katherine turned away, retreating indoors.
“Is the baby kicking?” Colten asked casually.
Katherine said nothing, quickening her steps.
The encounter ended as abruptly as it had begun.
Julian didn’t move. He stood frozen, absorbing what he had just seen.
Eloise appeared beside him.
“Julian, what’s the matter?”
He turned to her, his expression back to normal.
“Nothing.”
After that night, Julian vanished from Katherine’s world.
Time raced by, and little Jillian grew prettier by the day, though her weight stayed low and her eating habits didn’t improve.
Medical visits revealed no definitive diagnosis.
Worried, Katherine called in a favor and scheduled a consultation with a top pediatric expert for a thorough evaluation.
The doctor was known for handling rare and difficult cases, but that day, fate had other plans. A man knelt at the office doorway, begging the doctor in tears to reevaluate his child.
The doctor, with regret, explained that the case was beyond help.
Grief turned violent. Suddenly, the father pulled a knife and lunged at the crowd in a blind rage.
Katherine’s caregiver shrieked in fear, drawing the man’s attention.
Katherine reacted instantly—she grabbed her daughter from the stroller and fled.
But the man caught sight of the infant and, in a frenzy, chased her down, screaming for her to hand over the baby, and viciously tore Jillian from her grasp.
The hallway descended into chaos, with bodies darting and voices raised in panic.
