Chapter 769:

“But that violates the law.”
“How many existing legitimate operations do I currently run?”
“That’s a separate matter.”
Julian knit his brows. “Relax, no one’s asking you to sell your body.”
The staff member went quiet.
Back at the office, Cayson couldn’t hold back his curiosity. “Mr. Nash, what sparked the sudden dive into these things? Did your preferences shift?”
Julian looked at him sharply. “If I were into men, I’d have made a move on you a long time ago.”
Cayson froze.
Before Katherine left for Laurence’s residence, she called him.
At the thought of seeing his granddaughter soon, Laurence got out of bed early and kept himself busy, even tempted to prepare a few home-cooked meals.
Julian also came back earlier than usual.

Laurence joked, “Why didn’t you bring your girlfriend with you?”
Julian responded dismissively, “She’s got other things going on.”
“Is she really occupied, or are you afraid Kathy might take it the wrong way?”
Julian told the butler, “Please do something to make him quiet.”
Time passed slowly, rain came down outside, and eventually it cleared. As it neared eleven o’clock, Katherine still hadn’t arrived. Julian understood her well. She was usually a little early.
He sensed something was wrong, and sure enough, the telephone in the living room rang. Julian picked it up just before the butler could reach it.
Katherine said, “Hi, this is Katherine speaking. Please inform Laurence that I won’t be able to come today. Jillian got sick in the car and has been throwing up non-stop. I have to take her to the hospital immediately.”
Julian’s chest tightened. “Where exactly are you?”
Katherine hesitated slightly. “Don’t stress, we’re already at the hospital.”
Colten’s voice came through in the background. “Kate, pass me the baby, and step out carefully.”
The noise made the call unclear, and Katherine’s voice slowly disappeared. Then she came back into focus. “Julian, I’m ending the call.” A second later, the line went dead.
Julian gripped the phone tightly, his expression stiff. Then the tension left his face as a realization struck. She was surrounded by people who would always protect her. Why was he even anxious?
Jillian was unwell, and Julian didn’t share the truth with Laurence. He simply said Katherine had other plans today and would visit another time. Julian stayed to eat lunch with Laurence and only chose to return to work after seeing Laurence lie down for his nap.
Eloise kept pleading. “Julian, skip the office today and come shopping with me instead, will you?”
Julian pulled his hand away. “I’ve got something I need to deal with urgently. I have to leave.”
“What’s so urgent?”
“Cayson’s having another wedding.”
Eloise was speechless. Seeing Julian was set on leaving, she reluctantly let him go. “Drive carefully.”
“Got it.”
Julian had just stepped outside the building when a car came into view. He stopped walking.
