Chapter 1103:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Mathew gave a slight nod, a small smile curving his lips in response. “Thank you, Mrs. Thomas.”
This was Mathew’s first meeting with Madisyn’s parents.
Although the middle-aged couple didn’t share her lively energy, it was evident that they were kind-hearted and gracious.
Perhaps only a family with such a flair for boldness and spontaneity could nurture someone as full of life and unrestrained as Madisyn.
As Mathew took in the sight of her family, he couldn’t help but reflect on his own fractured upbringing.
If his parents had been as gracious and loving as Madisyn’s, perhaps his own youth wouldn’t have been marred by the loneliness that often clouded what should have been the happiest of years.
“Mr. Sampson?”
Noticing that Mathew had grown still as he gazed at Madisyn’s parents, Belinda gently brought him back to the present. “If you have something to say, let’s talk inside.”
“Sorry,” Mathew murmured, snapping out of his daze. He gave a soft apology and followed them into the living room.
While impressively grand on the outside, the Thomas family villa felt warm and inviting once inside.
As he settled into the plush sofa, Mathew accepted the coffee Ethel offered him while taking in his surroundings with his sharp, observant eyes.
After a moment, he took a slow sip of coffee, lifting his gaze to Ethel with a warm smile. “Where is she?”
Ethel chuckled awkwardly, instantly grasping that he was referring to Madisyn. “She said that during her amnesia, she did and said things she probably shouldn’t have with you. Now that you have shown up so suddenly, she doesn’t know how to face you. So she is hiding.”

Her smile softened as she turned her attention back to him. “Mr. Sampson, please don’t take it to heart. Our daughter has always had her quirks. If there is anything you need to say, feel free to tell us or Belinda. We will make sure to convey the message.”
Mathew set the cup down with a faint smile, his eyes flickering toward the staircase as though by instinct.
Sure enough, he spotted the faintest glimpse of red fabric peeking from around the corner of the stairs.
She had always had a fondness for that color, and he had never forgotten it. A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Clearing his throat, he refocused his attention on her parents. “Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, I’m not sure how much Miss Nelson has shared with you, but Madisyn’s amnesia is connected to me. To put it bluntly, she got caught in the crossfire because of me. Since I rarely oversee the modeling division of my business, I had Madisyn take charge of operations there. She is an exceptional woman because she managed the new models brilliantly and significantly boosted our earnings. That brought us closer than the average boss-employee relationship. But I didn’t anticipate this to spark rumors that we were romantically involved, which unfortunately made her a target.”
Upstairs, Madisyn heard the calm, steady cadence of Mathew’s voice, and it sent a sharp pain slicing through her chest. So it was true. It was just as Belinda had told her.
To Mathew, she was nothing more than a capable employee with a slightly better relationship.
He had no feelings for her beyond that.
Her fingers instinctively curled over her chest as she closed her eyes.
