Chapter 505:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Callan had vehemently opposed Darya marrying into the Cavanaughs under a false name, but she had insisted on following her own path and suffered greatly as a result. If it weren’t for their business ties, Callan wouldn’t have given the Cavanaughs a second thought.
Avery, too, was surprised to see Micah, but his attention quickly shifted to Micah’s bandaged arm. Concerned, he inquired, “Mr. Cavanaugh, what happened?”
Darya felt a pang of awkwardness but knew she had to explain the situation to her brothers. “Micah took a bullet for me—”
“A bullet? Who shot at you?” Callan’s anger was replaced by worry.
“Darya, are you okay?!” Avery chimed in, his concern evident.
Both of them completely ignored Micah.
“I’m fine. I just crossed paths with ‘those’ people again,” Darya reassured them, her tone tinged with weariness.
The mention of ‘those’ people brought about a solemn silence. Callan and Avery knew exactly whom Darya was referring to.
The car accident three years ago had nearly claimed her life, and the McAllisters had spared no effort in tracking down the culprits. That incident had made them hyper-vigilant about Darya’s safety, and they had hoped that, after all these years, the mercenaries would leave her alone. But it seemed they hadn’t given up on seeking revenge.
“Thank goodness you’re all right,” Avery finally broke the silence, his gaze shifting to Micah, who stood silently by her side. “Mr. Cavanaugh, your timely intervention saved Darya once again. Our family is indebted to you. We owe you a reward—please, name it. Anything.”
Micah promptly refused, his voice firm. “I don’t need any reward. All I care about is protecting her.”
Callan couldn’t help but curse under his breath, but his words died in his throat as he noticed the bandage on Micah’s arm. Regardless of his feelings, Micah had indeed been Darya’s savior.

“While that may be your motivation, it doesn’t lessen our gratitude. In any case, thank you,” Avery’s tone softened slightly, his attitude toward Micah thawing.
Sensing the tension in the air, Darya interjected, eager to end the standoff. “All right, I’m a bit tired. I just want to go home and get some rest.”
“Let’s go. I’ll take you home,” Callan offered, enfolding Darya in a protective embrace. He shot one last glance at Micah before leading her away.
Polite goodbyes were exchanged between Avery and Micah before the latter joined his family, leaving Micah feeling somewhat alone.
Darya decided to take a few days off before resuming her responsibilities at the Paragon Group. Upon hearing of her return, her friends bombarded her with invitations to hang out. Each day was filled with shopping trips and indulgent meals, allowing her to savor carefree and joyful moments.
