Chapter 2371:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Annabel embraced her children tightly, and they seemed to respond, clinging to her as their cries gradually subsided. “I’m sorry, my darlings. It’s my fault. I failed to properly care for you and neglected my role as a mother. I won’t abandon you again,” Annabel said. Her children gazed at her with attentive eyes, seemingly acknowledging her words.
Johan said to Annabel, “You’ll have plenty of time to make up for the lost moments with them. Let’s head back to the embassy now.”
As they made their way back to the embassy, Annabel cradled the two children in her arms, refusing to let them go for even a moment.
The two children drifted off to sleep in Annabel’s arms, allowing her a moment of calm. Gently, she placed them in a cot, keeping a vigilant watch over them, with the man sitting next to her.

As they were escorted into the meeting room at the embassy, Annabel found herself seated opposite the man, with Johan beside her. Their lawyer and the embassy representative were also present.
“Now that everyone is here, it’s important we discuss the situation regarding the two children,” the embassy representative announced.
Johan reminded Annabel, “I understand this is all quite bewildering. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.”
Annabel nodded slowly, her gaze fixed on the man across from her. “Where exactly did you find the two babies?”
When Annabel witnessed her babies falling into the water and Rupert diving in after them, it was a scene she knew she would never forget. How, then, was it possible that her babies had miraculously reappeared on the other side of the ocean months later?
She couldn’t fathom the complexities of it all.
The man silently regarded Annabel and said, “You may find this hard to believe, and frankly, so do I. How could a bachelor like me suddenly become the father of two babies? It happened during a sea voyage. I found these two, crying inconsolably as they floated in the water. I decided to take them in, thinking they had been abandoned. I could never have imagined the dramatic story behind their arrival.”
His words carried the weight of genuine experience.
Yet Annabel struggled to accept his story.
From the moment her babies, not yet three months old, had fallen into the water, she had feared their chances of survival were minimal. And how had they ended up on the other side of the continent?
“Are you telling the truth? No deception at all?” Annabel asked, skeptical.
“Absolutely, I’m telling the truth. Haven’t you seen them yourself? How else would I have found these two babies?” the man replied, trying to alleviate her doubts.
Annabel then stood and approached the embassy officials, murmuring, “I need to speak with him privately.”
The embassy officials looked at Johan and nodded their assent. They exited the room, leaving Annabel alone with the man.
She gazed into his eyes, pressing him, “Look into my eyes and tell me the truth. Are you certain about your story? Are you absolutely sure?”
The man sighed deeply. “I knew I couldn’t conceal it from you. He told me everything back then, but I refused to believe it.”
“He? Who are you talking about?” Annabel’s tension escalated.
“Benton Rupert,” the man revealed.
