Chapter 2387:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Everyone in Annabel’s crew was on standby, waiting for her next move and brainstorming like crazy.
Flora was riding high. The company had just received a cash boost, and now there was no more threat of a hostile takeover. Stocks were bouncing back, not quite where they used to be, but getting there.
She was sure that if they kept grinding, stocks would soar again back to their original levels.
But what really bugged her was Annabel swooping in when they were down and busting the rumors she herself had started. Flora knew what had to be done.
With that, she marched into Annabel’s company, ready to stir the pot.
Annabel was sitting in a meeting, brainstorming strategies, when her phone buzzed with a call from Rupert’s secretary.
Glancing at the screen, she recognized the number. After a brief pause, she stepped out to answer.
“Hey there, what’s going on?” she asked, curious but unsure. She then kept silent, letting the other side speak first. Her mind was a blank slate, and she was unsure of what to expect. She figured it might be Rupert behind this call, using his secretary as a messenger.
But she pushed those thoughts aside, focusing on getting answers rather than overthinking.
She preferred clarity over speculation, so she waited for answers before making any decisions.

“Mr. Benton wants to meet you for dinner tonight at Green Hotel, room 1504,” the secretary relayed.
Annabel felt a surge of frustration upon hearing this.
She couldn’t help but wonder why Rupert didn’t just call her directly.
This way felt impersonal and more like a business transaction. If they were still close, she wouldn’t have thought twice about the secretary’s call.
But now, it left her questioning.
“Why didn’t Rupert call me himself?” she asked, her irritation evident.
The secretary heard Annabel’s frustration loud and clear from the other end.
“Mr. Benton’s on edge today. I don’t know why, and I didn’t dare to ask,” the secretary relayed.
“But he’s keen on having dinner with you despite that. It must be something important on his mind!”
Annabel mulled over the secretary’s words, unsure of Rupert’s intentions.
Her previous anger towards him was now mixed with uncertainty, fueling her curiosity. She wanted to unravel his motives.
Questions swirled in her mind.
“Why now? Why contact me through his secretary? Does he really trust Flora that much?”
But the answers to these questions would only come from Rupert himself. So, despite her doubts, she agreed to meet him.
“Got it. Is there anything else?” she asked before ending the call.
Mixed feelings churned within her as she contemplated the evening ahead. Yet her decision to go remained unchanged now that she had accepted the invitation.
Back in the meeting, she hastily wrapped things up, her mind elsewhere.
Her nerves jangled as the afternoon dragged on.
When the time came to meet Rupert, Annabel hesitated briefly. “I guess I should go,” she resolved, pushing through her uncertainty as she headed to the designated spot.
