Chapter 2393:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Her eyes widened as she read the results: the blood alcohol content was zero.
This meant there was no alcohol in Rupert’s body.
However, Annabel felt something was off about the test data.
“Could there be an error in this data? Should Rupert be retested? But will it still be effective to test him today?” Annabel asked. She knew that if someone had been drunk, after sobering up for a whole night, the alcohol content might have dissipated.
If a person was in good health and hadn’t consumed much alcohol, a test done the next day might not show high levels, rendering it less useful.
She asked the law enforcer for guidance on whether a retest was necessary.
The officer paused before addressing Annabel directly. “It’s unnecessary to speculate further. We still have the data, including the blood sample. The hospital even called us after their initial test.”
He explained that everyone at the hospital was puzzled because, despite Rupert’s admission of drunk driving, the alcohol content in his blood was zero. Naturally, they retested, but the result was the same.

They tested the sample again, and the result still did not change. Confused, they consulted the law enforcer on how to proceed.
When the law enforcers arrived at the hospital, they conducted a third test with all parties present, but the result remained unchanged.
There was still a small amount of the blood sample left at the hospital.
He paused, reflecting on the implications. “We are certain now that Rupert was not under the influence of alcohol. His admission raises a lot of questions. It’s possible he had other motives for claiming he was drunk. Whatever his reasons, falsely admitting to a crime is also an offense, and he will face consequences for his actions.”
The law enforcer’s frustration was evident. Just yesterday, he had been bombarded with calls from friends suggesting he downplay the incident.
Yet holding the test report now made him feel manipulated. Although other friends had called to explain the situation further, he couldn’t share these details with Annabel — it would tarnish the police’s reputation.
“You might want to investigate why Rupert claimed he was drunk driving,” he suggested to Annabel, his tone measured. “Uncovering his motives could lead to some answers. For now, please proceed with the necessary steps on your end. We’ll call Rupert if any issues arise.”
The law enforcer didn’t want Annabel to get more involved. He suspected there might be a conflict between Rupert and Annabel, possibly prompting Rupert to stage this incident to win her sympathy. He had no desire to be caught up in their personal issues again.
The best course of action was to let Annabel complete the necessary procedures first. As for the mystery of the bloodstains in the car, he anticipated clarity upon Rupert’s arrival.
Even without Rupert’s confession, the preserved samples and photographs offered clues that could eventually reveal the truth.
