Chapter 2394:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“After I sign this, is there anything else you need from me? And about the bloodstains in the car — could you inform me when you have some results?” Annabel asked reluctantly.
The officer nodded in confirmation, prompting Annabel to sign the necessary documents on his desk.
Once the paperwork was complete, Annabel left his office, feeling confused and unsure how to handle the situation. However, she had begun to piece together why Rupert had concocted such an elaborate deception.
The more Annabel dwelt on it, the deeper her distress grew, compelling her to reach out to Rupert directly.
“Why did you do this?” she demanded over the phone, her fingers tightening around the steering wheel as memories of their divorce flooded back. It felt like only yesterday.
On the other end of the line, Rupert’s response carried a hint of amusement. “Come to my office, and I’ll explain everything.”
Annabel ended the call and drove straight to his workplace.
Since Rupert’s return, Flora had taken a step back from the company’s operations, leaving Rupert to grapple with internal discord and external pressures alone. Despite his best efforts, restoring the company to its former glory seemed like an insurmountable task.

Annabel couldn’t shake the memory of her last visit, when she had entertained thoughts of acquiring the company in Rupert’s absence. But now, he was back.
With a heavy heart, she entered the building. The receptionist recognized her and silently guided her to the CEO’s office. Annabel’s knuckles rapped against the door, and a chilly voice from within commanded, “Enter.”
As she pushed open the door, Annabel was surprised to find not only Rupert but also Flora in the office.
Upon seeing her, Flora raised an eyebrow but did not seem surprised. Given their past conflicts, it was inevitable that their words would be somewhat sharp.
“Well, well, isn’t this the famous Annabel gracing us with her presence? What brings you to our humble abode? Is it because our company’s environment is so delightful?” Flora remarked with a smirk.
Annabel paid her no attention. Instead, she walked directly to Rupert, placing her handbag on his desk with a decisive thud. She glanced around the room, her eyes narrowing.
“Don’t you think you owe me an explanation?” she asked, her voice steady.
Rupert gestured dismissively toward Flora. “You can leave us for now,” he said.
Flora gave them a thoughtful look and reminded Rupert, “Remember your promise.”
With a final glance, she turned on her heel and left the room, leaving Annabel and Rupert alone.
Annabel looked at the man who was once so familiar to her, but now they stood on opposite sides. This realization brought a pang of distress.
Rupert gestured toward the sofa, inviting Annabel to sit. After a moment’s hesitation, she complied and took a seat, her posture rigid yet composed.
“There’s no need for us to delve into the specifics.”
Annabel sighed deeply. She had countless questions to ask Rupert, but every time she tried to speak, the image of her attempting to acquire his company flashed in her mind.
