Chapter 2396:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“A group of people came in without identifying themselves,” one of the nannies explained, her voice shaky. “They grabbed the kids and ran out. We couldn’t stop them. They left just a short while ago, and then another group came and ransacked the house. We couldn’t handle the situation, so we had to call you.”
Annabel looked around, taking in the chaotic scene. She could almost feel the intensity of the situation that had unfolded moments before.
Without hesitation, she immediately called the police. A nanny approached Annabel and handed her a piece of paper. “This was left for you by the man who took the kids,” she said, her hands trembling.
The others chimed in, nodding. “They knew who you were. They told us to tell you to find them before they left.”

Annabel’s mind raced as she carefully considered everyone she knew. Apart from the Benton family, no one else would resort to such despicable means. Moreover, she had not encountered any enemies in her business dealings.
Could it really be Bruce?
The possibility of Bruce’s involvement lingered in Annabel’s mind, but her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the blaring sirens of police cars.
The police arrived quickly, and the officer who approached was the same one she had encountered at the police station just the day before.
“Why is it you again?” Officer Jamir Curtis asked, surprise evident in his voice.
The coincidence of encountering the same individual twice within such a short span of time was indeed peculiar.
Annabel shrugged, her expression bitter. “I can’t say I’m thrilled about our frequent meetings either,” she remarked.
“Let’s discuss the situation first.”
Annabel briefed Jamir on what had transpired, then let the nannies explain further to him, but she kept the note in her hand unopened, not revealing its contents to anyone.
“We’ll investigate carefully. Do you have surveillance cameras at your house? The footage might provide some clues,” Jamir suggested.
“My children were lost once before. After they were found, the surveillance camera broke. I haven’t had a chance to replace it,” Annabel explained.
Jamir questioned the nannies and documented the scene with photos. “Let’s wait for the results. You should consider if there’s anyone you might have offended.”
“Thank you for your efforts. I need some time to think,” Annabel sighed.
Once Jamir left, she decided to drive to Bruce’s residence.
Maybe she could get her answers there.
Upon arriving, the contrast between her own distress and the sounds of laughter inside struck her deeply.
Annabel pushed the door open with deliberate steps; the laughter abruptly ceased as soon as she entered.
Her unexpected arrival seemed to startle them.
Inside the old house, Annabel faced Bruce, Erica, and Flora, who looked at her as if she were a joke.
“Well, well, isn’t this Rupert’s ex-wife? What brings you here? Our families have nothing to do with each other now, do they?” Flora’s sarcasm was as cutting as ever.
“I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for urgent matters,” Annabel retorted. She needed to find her children, and she would do anything for them.
“Didn’t you take the children away? Have you lost them again?” Erica pinned all the blame on Annabel.
But Bruce’s demeanor was unsettlingly calm, contrary to what Annabel had expected.
