Chapter 466:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
In the mirror, his face looked clean and refreshed, his jawline sharp and his skin smooth.
“Done.” Joslyn looked at his reflection and spoke softly.
Connor studied himself in the mirror too, and then turned to look at her.
“Not bad,” he said, genuinely impressed.
Joslyn lowered her eyes and began rinsing the razor. After drying it with a paper towel, she carefully removed the used blade and slipped it into a small box so she could throw it away later.
“Looks like I had a pretty good teacher,” she said, her voice edged with playful teasing.
Connor did not answer. He only kept watching her.
The bathroom grew quiet, filled only with the sound of running water and the soft rustle of her tidying up.
Then he broke the silence. “No matter what happens, I’m with you. Joslyn, you don’t need to be afraid.”

Joslyn’s hands stilled for a moment. Her lashes trembled, and then she gave a small nod.
“I know.”
Once the sink area was tidy, she dried her hands, left the bathroom, walked to the bed, pulled back the covers, and slipped underneath. Then she patted the empty space beside her.
“Let’s sleep. It’s late.”
Connor came over, climbed into bed, and lay down beside her.
Joslyn switched off the bedside lamp, and the room dropped into darkness.
She lay on her side with her back to him.
A moment later, she felt the mattress dip behind her as Connor moved closer and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
The warmth of his chest pressed to her back. His arm curved around her waist, his chin rested on the top of her head, and his breath brushed softly against her ear.
Joslyn leaned back into him, nestling deeper into the circle of his embrace.
Sensing her melt against him, Connor tightened his hold and drew her fully into his arms.
In the dark, his eyes stayed open, heavy shadows gathering inside them.
By Monday morning, the gloom of the past few days seemed to have been swept away. The sky was a rare, brilliant blue, and sunlight poured down without a single cloud in its path.
Standing by the window, Joslyn looked out at the bright world outside. The weight Evelyn’s threats had left on her heart seemed to lighten, if only a little, under all that sun.
She turned and stepped into the walk-in closet. It was cold outside, but she would be indoors most of the day, so she chose a soft beige cashmere dress and paired it with a long oatmeal-colored coat. The whole look was gentle, neat, and polished.
She tied her hair into a low bun and put on light makeup. She looked presentable enough.
The moment Joslyn stepped into the office building, a wave of heat wrapped around her.
The elevator carried her up to Nova Designs. As the glass doors slid open, the young receptionist, a bright, cheerful woman who could chat with anyone, spotted her at once and flashed a sweet professional smile. “Morning!”
