Chapter 1364:

Smack!
A burning sting flared across my left cheek, the slap’s force whipping my head sharply to the side. The metallic tang of anger thickened in the air.
I wiped my cracked lip with my tongue, staring at the frail old man in stunned disbelief.
“Jett’s not after the throne,” he growled, his voice shaking with fury. “Stop dragging his name through the dirt right in front of me!”
Gasping for breath, he slumped back into his throne.
“I’ll leave this matter to Lucian. And as for Makenna…”
A sly grin spread over his face, a spark of shrewdness gleaming beneath his heavy eyelids.
“Jett wants to wed her. I’ve made up my mind to approve the match.”
Darkness crept at the edges of my sight.
“Are you out of your mind? Letting werewolf blood corrupt the royal line—”
“Get out!” My father seized his golden scepter and flung it at me.
I stepped aside just in time as the scepter crashed against a golden pillar with a loud clang.
“One more word out of you, and you’ll be left to rot on the frontier.”
I curled my hands into fists so tight the pain in my palms kept me rooted to the spot.
Turning to go, I spotted Lucian slipping silently behind the heavy curtains.
That blasted sycophant—he must have been listening in the whole time!
Leaving the room, I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth with a sharp swipe.

“You old, senile fool. If you’ve lost your grip on reality, don’t come blaming me for what happens next…”
I stormed down the hallway, yanking at my collar as the tight fabric bit into my neck. The silver button popped off and hit the floor with a sharp, metallic clatter.
The night air rushed into my lungs, but it did nothing to douse the burning rage coursing through me.
“Your Highness…” My guard captain stepped forward, hesitation written all over his face.
“Get out!” I snapped sharply.
It was clear as day that Lucian had teamed up with Jett, and that old fox kept covering for him at every turn. He clearly planned to hand the throne over to Jett. Things looked bleak for me.
Back at my villa, I wasted no time and called my most trusted advisors for an emergency meeting.
Sitting at the head of the table, I tapped my fingers impatiently on the golden armrest.
“Your Highness…” One minister began to speak, but I cut him off with a dismissive wave.
“My father is set to approve Jett’s marriage to Makenna.” I let the sentence linger, watching their faces turn pale. “From the looks of it, he’s planning to name Jett as his heir!”
“This can’t be allowed!” One of them jumped up angrily.
