Chapter 1365:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“Since the old man has already broken his oath, we owe him no loyalty,” I said coldly, scanning the room. “Send word to the troops at the border. Have them sneak into the royal city quietly. We’ll strike at Jett’s wedding. Kill them all!”
A shocked hush fell over the room.
The servant I had placed in my father’s chambers stammered, “Your Highness, about the poisonous scented incense in His Majesty’s room…”
“Turn up the dosage,” I replied casually. “He’s been slowly poisoned by it for months now. If he suddenly dies, no one will suspect a thing. They’ll just think it was an illness.”
Jett’s POV:
I made sure the three werewolf princes had a place to stay at my villa for the time being.
The dim lights flickered, casting shifting shapes of our figures across the room. I lifted a goblet, took a slow drink of the dark wine, and let the sharp taste coat my tongue.
“I’ll figure out a way to save Makenna,” I said.
Dominic let out a dry, bitter laugh.
“This mess started because you stashed Makenna in the Wizard Clan’s palace.”
Bryan stayed silent, but the frost in his eyes hit me like daggers.
Clayton kept his cool. He gently rested a hand on each of their shoulders.
“Right now, we’ve got no option but to put our faith in him,” he said.
It felt like an iron grip was squeezing my chest, making it hard to breathe. Dominic had a point. I had brought this on myself. I’d led Makenna right into danger—the Wizard Clan’s palace, of all places.
The following morning, word reached me that the king had taken another turn for the worse.

I was in the middle of breakfast when Lucian showed up out of the blue. He told me the king had asked to see me.
I trailed behind Lucian to the king’s quarters. When I pushed the door open, the heavy stench of medicine and suffocating incense hit me like a wall. The king leaned weakly against the headboard. His skin was pale as chalk, and he looked barely alive.
As soon as he noticed me, something sparked faintly in his dull eyes. He tried to sit up, fighting to lift himself.
“Give Makenna to me,” I said flatly, though my voice came out harsher than I meant.
The king let out a sudden laugh, dry and crackling like dried leaves in the wind.
“It was always my plan… for you to wed her…”
I narrowed my eyes. Something told me this wasn’t going to be straightforward.
He struggled to breathe, weak hands gripping the sheets with surprising force.
“There’s one catch. You have to take out the three werewolf princes.”
I froze in place, completely blindsided.
If I actually went through with it, what would Makenna think of me?
Her connection to those princes was strong—unshakable. If I killed them, she would never forgive me. That trust would be shattered.
