Chapter 623:

He didn’t answer right away. His fingers tightened around the papers. Behind the glare of his glasses, his eyes darkened. His chest rose slowly, each breath heavier than the last.
Nicole had planned ahead. Deeper than he ever imagined. And now he understood exactly why she paid them all to stay silent.
Nicole’s fists clenched tightly at her sides. She glanced at Jasper, who sat still, his eyes fixed on the bank statements Felicia had handed him. His expression gave away nothing.
Her heart skipped a beat. Would he believe her? Or would he fall for Felicia’s carefully crafted story?

Everything Felicia said was laced with logic, and she hadn’t come empty-handed—she had evidence, witnesses. It looked bad. Really bad. And yet… a flicker of hope lit Nicole’s chest. For the first time, she truly longed for someone’s trust. Not just anyone—his, Jasper. Her brother. Her real family, bound by blood.
She turned back to Felicia, her voice steady, each word clear and deliberate. “Don’t you think your story contradicts itself? You claim I paid them hush money to stop them from telling Jasper the truth, just so I could weasel my way into the Powell family. But if that’s true, why did Helga say I donated blood? Wouldn’t she be afraid I’d demand the money back?”
Felicia scoffed, “Compared to your threats, she’s more afraid of Jasper. What’s so hard to understand about that?”
Nicole barely registered her words. Felicia’s voice was like a fly buzzing in her ear—shrill, persistent, maddening.
But Felicia wasn’t done. “You vile woman. How dare you claim to be Rosina since she has been dead for over two decades! You even forged a kinship test to deceive Jasper, abusing the trust he placed in you. If there was really something fishy about what happened back then, how could it possibly escape Mr. and Mrs. Powell’s eyes?”
Her voice wavered as she turned to Jasper, eyes welling with crocodile tears. “Nicole is exploiting your weakness, Jasper. She’s filthy, manipulative, and crawling her way into someone else’s life. She doesn’t deserve—”
“Enough!” Jasper’s voice cut through the room like a blade.
Felicia flinched. She looked up, startled. Gone was the usual warmth in Jasper’s gaze. In its place was something dark and deadly—his eyes were cold as stone, his expression terrifyingly unreadable.
“Jasper…” she breathed.
He threw off the blanket and stood, each step toward her deliberate, heavy with fury. He towered over her now, his voice a low, menacing rasp. “I don’t need you to tell me what to believe. She is my sister. And you are just a merciless monster.”
Nicole’s throat tightened, her chest aching. He believed her. Despite the evidence, he hadn’t doubted her for a moment.
Felicia swallowed hard, her eyes growing redder out of fear. She’d never seen Jasper look so menacing before. Her lips trembled. “Jasper… you don’t believe me?”
Before she could say more, Jasper’s hand shot out and closed around her throat. His grip was firm. Unforgiving.
“You crossed the line,” he said, his voice cold enough to freeze the air between them.
