Chapter 759:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to let her go, though his hands hovered at her waist and his eyes, cold and stormy, refused to look away.
Katherine was silent too, her heartbeat thundering in her ears. She had believed time apart would dull the ache, but the truth was merciless: her longing for him was stronger now than ever.
“Julian.” Her eyes didn’t waver as she asked, “Is there still love in your heart for me?”
Julian met her gaze, his tone unshaken.
“There was.”
Her eyes didn’t flinch.
“So it’s gone now?”

What made his pride so loud it drowned out everything else? Why couldn’t he just reach out and ask her to return? She wasn’t demanding the world—just honesty.
A bitter smile twisted Julian’s lips.
“Look at you now. A new man, a child, a thriving career. Your life is perfect. Why bother asking questions that don’t matter anymore?”
She searched his face, her voice trembling.
“Aren’t you scared I’ll leave Bresa for good? That you’ll never see me again?”
His reply was cold, sharp.
“And what if we cross paths down the line? What then? In less than a year, you managed to have a child with someone else. Am I supposed to just hang around and wait until he’s out of the picture—so I can be your backup plan?”
Katherine shrank from the force of his words, silenced by the dominance in his tone.
With every spat, Julian seemed to savor his place above her, almost as if he needed to win, no matter the cost.
“Never mind. Forget I said anything,” she murmured, her voice trailing off, shoulders sagging with resignation.
A chill swept across Julian’s face, sharpening his features. He let out a cutting laugh.
“What’s wrong, Katherine? Tired of Colten already?”
His gaze narrowed, his voice twisting with mockery.
“Did he cheat on you? Or is it something else—maybe he can’t even satisfy you?”
Katherine refused to take the bait. Quietly, she glanced toward the door, mentally counting the minutes until Beth arrived with help. Forcing herself to focus, she started gathering her scattered clothes.
Julian wouldn’t stop. He edged closer, his words biting.
“What was that question supposed to mean, huh? I kissed you today. Don’t pretend you didn’t feel it. So what is it—do you want me to be your backup whenever you’re feeling lonely?”
She blocked out his voice, tuning out the noise.
But Julian pressed on, unrelenting.
“Tell me—are you actually married to him?”
Katherine’s voice was steady as she asked,
“Where did you put the clothes I was wearing when I got here?”
His patience snapped, his glare sharp.
“I asked you a question—are you married to him or not?”
She could almost see the storm brewing behind his eyes. If she said yes, she half-believed he would lash out right then.
With a careless shrug, she replied,
“No, I’m not. Why do you care?”
A sly smile tugged at her lips.
“Just trying to find someone who’ll be a good dad to my child.”
His anger burned so hot it felt like his body might snap from the strain.
