An uncertain destiny- Sneak Peek
The rays of the rising sun peeked through my curtains, signaling the arrival of morning. I had been awake since four, attempting to finish another chapter of my book—a daily routine for me since I get my best ideas and inspiration at this time of day.
I added a period to the final sentence of the chapter before saving it and shutting down my laptop. Falling back onto the bed, I straightened my legs, which had been crossed ever since I woke up, and massaged my aching fingers that had been typing furiously on the laptop.
Closing my eyes for a quick rest, I heard faint footsteps that grew louder as they approached my room. The footsteps stopped, followed by a knock on my door.
“‘Rhea, come downstairs. Breakfast is ready,” my mom’s sweet voice called from outside before her footsteps faded away.

I stood up from my queen-sized bed and pulled apart the curtains, sighing as I enjoyed the warmth of the sun’s rays on my skin. I hummed my new favorite song, “Slowly” by Alec Benjamin, as I waltzed into the bathroom. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I combed my copper-blonde hair and tied it in a bun. I returned to my room to put in my blue contact lenses, which the family doctor had recommended because of the eye strain I developed from too much time spent staring at my phone, laptop, and TV screen. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as I had never liked my honey-brown eyes, inherited from my mom, so I took the opportunity to cover them up.
After slipping on an oversized shirt and booty shorts, I made my way downstairs to join my parents, who were already dressed for work and having breakfast at the dining table.
My mom, Andrea Knight, is the Vice Chancellor of the University of West London, while my dad, Charles Knight, owns one of the biggest software and technology companies in London, Knight Tech. His success has made him one of the top 30 billionaires in London.
“Good morning,” I greeted, taking my seat and serving myself some breakfast.
“Good morning, dear,” my mom smiled. “Did you sleep well?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Good morning!” My elder sister, Leah, chirped as she walked into the dining room, looking stunning in a blue pearled gown. Her copper-blonde hair flowed down her back, reaching her waist, and her hazel eyes, which she inherited from our dad, sparkled as she smiled widely.
“Why do you look extra happy today?” I asked, giving her a puzzled look.
“Because your big sister finally got the opportunity to model for one of the biggest fashion companies in London,” she squealed.
I should mention that my twenty-five-year-old sister is a popular model in London. Ever since she was a young girl, she had always loved the spotlight and the camera. After finishing college, my dad supported her in pursuing her dream of becoming a model—and she succeeded. Her beauty and outstanding talent helped her climb to the top much faster than most.
“Wow, that’s amazing!” I beamed. “When is the shoot?”
“Today. Do you want to come along?” she asked, and I gave her a bored look.
“You know she can’t leave the house,” Mom interrupted.
“I know. I just wanted to give it a shot.”
You’re probably wondering why I can’t leave the house. It’s because I have agoraphobia, also known as the fear of crowds, which I developed when I was ten years old. This caused me to spend every single day within the four walls of my dad’s house. The fear was so overwhelming that I would have panic attacks whenever I was around more than ten people.
My parents tried everything to help me overcome it, but it didn’t work because I wouldn’t let them. So, I completed middle school and high school by taking online classes. Right now, I’m enrolled in an online creative writing course that I’ll finish this year.
“Dad, how’s the deal with the Spanish investors going?” my sister asked, turning to my dad, who had been quiet since I came in.
“It’s going as planned,” he replied, setting down his fork as he wiped his mouth with a napkin. “I recently found out that the person interested in investing in the project is the King of Spain.”
“For real?” My sister’s eyes widened as I looked up from my food, my face showing surprise.
“Yes. He’ll be arriving in London today, so we’ll be finalizing the deal soon.”
“That’s awesome!” Leah squealed.
