Untouchable: The Alpha’s Miracle Doctor – Sneak Peek

Haven Kramer’s POV

The silence in the drawing room was thick, but it didn’t weigh on me.

I sat comfortably on the edge of the silk settee, hands resting in my lap, watching with calm detachment as the little drama unfolded around me.

My father, Alpha Gordon Kramer, stood by the fireplace with his back to me, staring fixedly at the cold, unlit hearth. His rigid posture was meant to project grim authority, but to my trained eye, the overextended tension in his shoulders gave him away completely. He was nervous. I found that almost amusing.

Heavy footsteps sounded against the marble floor, announcing the arrival of the King’s envoy. A stern-faced wolf with graying temples entered the room, his expression set in a mask of absolute neutrality.

The air in the room crackled with tension, but my heartbeat stayed steady, a resting sixty beats per minute.

My father finally turned, wearing an expression of carefully constructed cheer. “Welcome,” he said, his voice grave.

He didn’t look at me. Not on purpose, anyway. It was a classic avoidance tactic. He believed he was breaking my heart; in truth, he was only confirming his own cowardice.

The envoy gave a curt nod, wasting no time on pleasantries. He drew a scroll from his inner coat pocket, bound with a strip of royal blue ribbon, and unrolled it with a soft crackle of parchment.

He began in a flat, official tone that carried through the vast room. “By decree of the Alpha King, regarding the union between the Houses of Contreras and Kramer: let it be recorded that Alpha Darren Contreras is an exemplary heir, beloved and strong. And let it be recorded that his brother, Alpha Demetri Contreras, was gravely wounded by silver during the War of the West, severing his bond with his wolf and leaving him a hollow shell of himself.”

The formal descriptions of the two brothers hung in the air between us. One, a golden son. The other, a crippled outcast.

“The Council has confirmed that Haven Kramer has no wolf,” the envoy continued, sparing me a brief, pitying glance. “A mate without a wolf is an unacceptable match for a future leader. Therefore, the betrothal between Alpha Darren Contreras and Haven Kramer is declared null and void.”

By the fireplace, my father remained perfectly composed, his eyes distant, as if he were nothing more than a merchant closing a deal. To him, I was simply damaged goods, being unloaded at a steep discount to preserve an alliance.

The envoy read on. “In her place, his sister, Charly Kramer, a true wolf of good standing, shall be joined to Alpha Darren Contreras. And to honor the original alliance, Haven Kramer shall be given to the crippled Alpha, Demetri Contreras.”

“Both weddings will take place simultaneously, three days from now,” the envoy concluded. He rolled the scroll carefully and handed it to my father, then gave a curt bow, turned, and left.

Silence returned.

My father finally looked at me, likely bracing himself for hysterics, tears, or the kind of desperate pleading the old Haven would have offered without hesitation.

Instead, I rose smoothly, smoothing the folds of my skirt.

“Three days. I’ll be ready,” I said, and my voice cut clean through the silence of the room, without so much as a tremor.

Before my father could recover from his visible shock, I turned and climbed the stairs to my bedroom.

I was sitting at my vanity, listening to the quiet of the night outside, when the door opened without so much as a knock.

The cloying scent of sweet pea perfume, thick with undeserved triumph, announced her arrival.

My stepsister. Charly.

“Oh, my poor sister,” she murmured, her voice syrupy with false sympathy. She glided into the room, dressed in an expensive gown of white lace.

She came to stand behind me, her fingers reaching out to stroke my hair as though comforting a pet. “It broke my heart to hear the news.”
